The Marina will host some 50 historic boats which will compete to win the coveted Les Lapworth Award for the best turned out boat. Every day at 2 pm, there will be a parade of boats, together with entertaining commentary and the steerers will compete for the Boat Handler's Award, which is judged by the audience on the quality of the turn outside the front of the pub. We'll also be treated to a parade of Illuminated Boats on Saturday Night. It's always a great weekend!

Bands on the Balcony are back for 2017. On Saturday we will be entertained by the Chase Jazz Quartet and on Sunday the fabulous Ian Casey returns to The Barlow.

As ever there will be live music upstairs each night. Friday night is sixties night with local group, The Backbone Slips. On Saturday night another local favourite, Little Boy Blue will be with us. Sunday Night will be a Highland Fling as The Burdock Band host a Ceilidh so get your best tartan out and be ready to dance! There may even be a prize for the best dressed "Flinger".

There'll be a Real Ale and Cider Festival and Madame Barlow's Gin Palace will make a much anticipated return. We'll also be hosting a craft and gift market, both on and off the canal.

Music Festival

We are thrilled to be hosting Tamworth Acoustic, Blues, Country, Folk and Roots' first ever music festival over the course of this weekend.

The festival will take place upstairs with the bar open throughout.

There will be 4 sessions of fabulous music. On Friday night we will be entertained by the awesome Harp and a Monkey, recent winners of folking.com's Best Folk Group Award. With their unique harp and banjo led form of electro-folk storytelling, the trio's third album War Stories, released in 2016 has been described as brilliant, sensational and captivating and has received huge critical acclaim from across both the folk and mainstream music world. Entry to see this exceptional group is entirely free!

Saturday night's session will see us joined by two great Midlands based groups, Soundboard and The Dominic Crane Band. Dominic's timelessly poetic lyrics have earned him huge respect in folk music circles and this is definitely an evening not to be missed. Tickets will be available on the door and cost £6.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoons we will be hosting a plethora of local musical talent so do come along and show your support!

Idle Women of the Wartime Waterways

A double bill of theatre, poetry and music to whisk you back to the days of World War II when a shortage of crews to keep the working boats going brought a new breed of boater to the canal. Young women, later nicknamed ‘Idle Women’, took on the challenge of managing a pair of 72ft narrow boats and 50 tons of cargo. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the start of the women’s training scheme, Kate Saffin and Heather Wastie will bring Isobel’s War and Idle Women and Judies to waterside (and nearby) venues, recreating the journey the women took (London-Birmingham-Coventry-London). Travelling with the show will be historic narrow boat Tench steered and crewed by women.

Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
